Do you struggle with stress and/or anxiety? Frequent mood swings? Overthinking?
What about feelings of negativity? Negative thought patterns? Stagnation? Overwhelm? Hopelessness? Or maybe you feel psychically attacked.
We all experience what I call a 'trapped mindset' especially when we don't know how to move forward. It's the doubt, second guessing, feeling that something bad is going to happen or situations will not change, lack of sleep, worry, feelings of dread.....
Either way, it's not a nice place to be in. A trapped mindset may lead to depression if we continue down the spiralling path of doom and gloom, which is what happened to me many years ago.
Whether it's our manager or work colleagues; teachers at school or college; parents, family members, friends or our intimate partners - their actions, what they say, how they treat you or even how they make us feel, the authoritarian within those situations can be out of our control, because we cannot control them or their actions, which may cause stress and anxiety - because we're stuck.
In other words, we cannot take these people to water and make them drink, so we may feel powerless, which then has a knock on effect on our mental health.
So what can you do to give yourself a breather and some grace? Use sea salt. Sea salt is a\ natural product that can be used for cooking, and also be used on our skin. Yes, you read that right.
It's the same as having a salt bath, but in the shower. Whilst on my wellness journey to get back to normal (whatever normal was), as well as wearing gemstone beaded jewellery to feel good and lift my mood, I also used sea salt on my body to rid all the negativeness and cleanse my aura whilst exfoliating my skin. This is what I would like to share with you today.
What are the Benefits?
Some of the benefits of using sea salt include:
- Exfoliates skin and improves circulation
- Draws out impurities
- Leaves skin feeling soft, looking fresh and glowing
- Cleanses our aura
Before We Start
Read this article first before starting the process.
A disclaimer. Although sea salt is natural, it can only be used in certain conditions. Do not use salt on your body if you have:
- Broken skin
- Cuts, scratches or open wounds
- Sensitive and dry skin*
- Skin irritations
- Just shaved (legs, arms etc) or used any hair removal products
In addition, do not use in or on intimate areas or your face.
* If you have dry or sensitive skin, it's best to test a small area of the body first.
In any case we recommend that you always seek medical advice from your GP, Physician if you have any health conditions before using salt (including salt scrubs) on your body.
OK, are you ready? Good, lets begin.
Ingredients
You'll need the following:
- A shower
- Fine sea salt (large container)
- An affirmation or prayer
- Your favourite shower soap or gel
- Towel
- Patience
- Moisturiser or body lotion
Set Your Intention
What do you want from this process? What do you want to cleanse away or invite into your life? What do you want to get rid of? Be clear of your intention before you start.
The Sea Salt Shower Process
1) Wash your body using your usual shower gel or soap with warm or your normal water temperature (not too hot) then rinse off. This will open up your pores.
2) After rinsing off move away from the flowing water; pour some of the sea salt in the palm of your hand and rub the salt using both hands.
3) Starting from the top of your body, gently rub the sea salt onto wet skin - neck, arms. shoulders, chest, stomach, butt cheeks, thighs, legs and feet - steering clear from intimate areas.
4) Whilst gently rubbing the sea salt onto your body, repeat over and over an affirmation or a Prayer. An example can be:
- "With this sea salt, I wash away all negative energy and negative feelings from my mind, body and spirit" or
- "I use this sea salt to purify my aura, release negativity and embrace positivity" or
- "I am worthy of love, happiness and abundance and release all that no longer serves me"
For a prayer, you ask whoever you feel comfortable praying to (e.g. God, Lord, the Universe, Great Spirit) and say something like:
- "Dear God, I am offering this sea salt wash as a prayer for purification of my mind, body and spirit, to wash away all that no longer serves me and to fill me with your love and light. Thank you, thank you, thank you" or
- "I pray for protection and healing as I cleanse my body. May the salt draw out any negative energy and leave me feeling refreshed and revitalised. Thank you, thank you, thank you."
You can use whatever affirmation or prayer you feel comfortable using or create your own. There's no right or wrong way of doing this, however it's important that you use intention during this process.
5) Continue gently rubbing the sea salt onto your body, whilst repeating your affirmation or prayer until all your body is covered with salt.
- You may notice a tingling sensation on different parts of your body. This is normal, the sea salt is doing it's work.
6) Leave the sea salt on your body for between 5 - 10 minutes, no longer than that.
- If you find that you cannot tolerate the tingling or it gets too much, RINSE OFF straight away.
7) Rinse your body well.
- Whilst rinsing off, visualise the sea salt taking away all the negativity, negative thoughts and feelings or whatever it is you want to release.
- Repeat over and over "I am cleansed, renewed and refreshed", or create your own.
8) If you wish, you can wash your body with shower gel again to remove all traces of sea salt.
Whether you choose to re-shower again or not, pat your skin dry with a towel and moisturise your skin if you wish.
No Shower?
If you don't own a shower your bathtub will work, just follow the same process whilst standing in the bath but you'll need to find a way to do your lower legs and feet.
Conclusion
Notice how soft, silky smooth and supple your skin feels immediately after rinsing off the sea salt? How does your mindset feel now? Do you feel any different?
Sea salt is really good if you require a reset and can be taken at any time. It's best to use this process once or twice a month. Please note this is not a daily practice.
It's all about looking after ourselves the best way we can when dealing with difficult times. Remember to reach out to speak to someone and not bottle things up or suffer in silence. Writing things down (known as journaling) is also a good way to off load.
As hard as it may be sometimes, we still need to believe in ourselves and love ourselves the best way we can.
